Trial version SemAfore download

The trial program of the ver. 4 SemAfore shows the user interface of the digitizer and contains most of the image handling functionality of the retail version, including the full user's manual in Help.

Missing features are described in the readme-file and are:

• The Image Database and Image Gallery will not work.
• You cannot save an image.
• You can only open images in BMP, JPG and TIFF format. The retail version supports a large number of other formats.

For Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000 and XP. Windows NT4 should have Service pack 4 or later. For NT, 2000 and XP you need Administrator rights for installing.

To get the program :

• Click here to download the program. The 4MB file (called semafore4demo.exe) is a self-extracting archive that you save somewhere.
• Run the downloaded installation program semafore4demo.exe
• The file Semafore.exe is the actual program.

If you want a SEM image to play with:

• Click here to download a SEM demonstration image. 2 MB of space is needed.
• Run the downloaded installation program test1.exe
• The file test1.bmp is the demonstration image.

Service pack 1 for SemAfore 5 (Feb 2005)

This servicepack download 1.2 Mb file SemAfore5SP1.exe cures 3 recently found bugs in the ver 5 program.

1. Image files saved in SemAfore and then inserted in MS Words were displayed with wrong height and width, now corrected.

2. Files saved in a database as TIFF files  wrongly received .BMP as extension, which now is corrected. Also when performing 'Extract files' the extension will be correct in the extracted files even if they are wrong in the database.

3. The self test of the SA10 digitizer sold 1995 and earlier did not work properly, which is now cured

Update from ver. 4 to ver. 5.0 (Nov. 2003)

This new update cures a few remaining bugs and includes a number of new or improved features. The update download 1.2 MB file Semafore5upd.exe is installed by just running it into the same folder as your present ver 4.x. Do not uninstall your present ver 4.X. The file readme500.txt describes the changes in detail.

1. TWAIN compatability meaning that SemAfore can aquire images directly into other application programs.

2. Saving to different file formats is reorganised with new dialog options.

3. Image overlay/comments are saved with BMP, JPG, TIFF, PNG and EXIF file formats.

4. Overlay can be burned into the image at high resolution.

5. Improved grey scale accuracy, all processing is done with 256 grey values.

6. BMP files are now as default saved with true greyscale.

7. Selectable interpolation modes (simple, bilinear, bicubic) for image zooming.

8. Distance measurments can be copied to MS Excel

9. User's manual in PDF-format. The F1 key opens the relevant Help page

10. New Windows selection bar makes working with several images easier.

Update from ver. 4.0 - 4.02 to ver. 4.03  (Jan.2003)

This last update of ver 4.0-4.02 to 4.03 corrects two bugs plus the cumulative corrections of earlier updates:

1. Replay, which did not function with certain SA20 digitizer units, will now work correctly: The units affected are S/N 20026, 20034, 20039, 20041, 20054, 20055, 20066, 20089, 20096, 20102, 20126, 20139, 20142, 20146, 20152, 20157, 20164, 20162.

2. Video voltage calibration for Replay is now more accurate

The update download 1.2 MB file Semafore403upd.exe is compressed and selfextracting and is installed by just running it. The file readme402.txt describes the changes in detail.

This update also includes corrections made in earlier updates for to ver. 4.0 and 4.01

1. Photo replay with the SA20 digitizer (USB) did not work together with Autostart (ver 4.0 - 4.01)

2. Autostart could not be used for starting Calibration (ver 4.0 - 4.01). In ver 4.02 - 4.03 you can choose method in the Configuration Wizard or in the Calibration dialog with "Use Autostart" as default setting. The choice is made for each separate scan configuration.

3. It was impossible (ver 4.0) to zoom out if viewing the video/sync signal and using the old (ver.3) zooming method. In ver 4.02 - 4.03 zoom out is obtained by right-clicking the mouse.

4. For digitizer model SA20 (ver 4.0): The sync voltage values were incorrectly calculated if the scan signal was different from the video signal (during scan configuration), which could prevent the digitizer to operate with some SEM models (5000- and T-series). This update corrects this problem.

5. Corrects problem with occasional black horizontal lines reported from system connected to JSM-5200 (possibly also occurring on some other SEMs)

Upgrade from ver 3 to ver 4.0 (June 2001)

Any present user of SemAfore ver.3 Pro can free of charge update to the new ver. 4.0 by downloading the 8.5 MB update file. Users of earlier versions should contact us for other solutions.

Important notes

1. Users of Windows NT should have service pack 3 (or later) installed.

2. Do not uninstall your SemAfore ver.3 Pro before installing the update. The update must be installed in the same folder and over your existing SemAfore ver.3 Pro program.

3. All your current digitizer drivers and settings (the semafore.ini file) will be preserved.

4. Running the update will not affect any other copies of the SemAfore ver.3 Pro you might have in the PC - so the DLL files and the Start menu items used by ver 3 will not be deleted automatically.

5.This update does not install drivers for the new USB digitizer SA20 or the support for the Kodak FlashPix file format. If required - please contact us.

6.The database support files of DAO 3.6 / MS Jet 4.0 are not included. They are only required if your computer does not have MS Access 2000 and you still want to use SemAfore image databases created with SemAfore ver. 3 and MS Access 2000. In such a case - please contact us.

7.This update does not update the semafore.mdb file, which is used only for creating databases for use with SemAfore ver.3 Pro. A separate download for this is available.

8.After upgrading to ver 4.0 you should also download the update to the ver 4.03

Update database template ver.3 (June 2001)

The SemAfore image database of ver 3 and ver 4 are different.

Ver 3 required that the PC had MS Access 95, 97 or 2000 installed. A new database was then created from an empty template database (semafore.mdb) compatible with the correct MS Access version and located in the same folder as semafore.exe.

The new ver 4.0 SemAfore does not use MS Access - except for 2 occasions:

a. To add new images to an existing ver 3 database

b. To create a new image database for use with ver 3.

1. This update will copy the newest version of semafore.mdb to your SemAfore program folder and ask you about the version of MS Access installed in your PC. (Japanese or English, 95 or 97 or 2000). The update does not affect your existing databases - only the creation of new ver 3 databases.

The English versions of the semafore.mdb files for Access 97 and 2000 are newer than those supplied with the SemAfore ver 3.01. The Japanese versions are newer than those of SemAfore ver 3.004.

2. The ver 3 to ver 4.0 upgrade download does not change or update the version of semafore.mdb in your system. If needed - use this template update.

3. If you have installed SemAfore 4.0 from the original CD-ROM and want to change the MS Access version selected during setup - do as follows:

or

Copy the correct Access version from your CD-ROM to the SemAfore program folder. The semafore.mdb files are located on the CD in folder: Dbase3/AccNNNLLL, where NNN is the version and LLL is the language (English or Japanese).

4. You cannot use the Add/Remove function of the Control Panel to change the semafore.mdb version

Update database of ver. 3.02 for MS Access 2000

(March 2000)

The database of SemAfore Pro ver. 3.02 does not work properly with the new MS Access 2000. SemAfore database users having Access 2000 or Office 2000 should download and install this update (released March 2000). Users of SemAfore ver 3.004 - 3.01 should first upgrade to ver 3.02.

Update database of ver. 3.02 for MS Access 97

(March 2000)

This update (released March 2000) includes minor bug fixes and is also necessary for converting a database from Access 97 format to the format of Access 2000. Users of SemAfore ver 3.004 - 3.01 should first upgrade to ver 3.02.

Update ver. 3.004-3.01 to ver 3.02 (January 1999)

All users of SemAfore Pro version 3.004 - 3.01 are most welcome to free of charge upgrade your present SemAfore program to the January 1999 program version 3.02. You can do this by clicking on the correct Windows version of your computer and then follow the instructions.

Update Japanese database of ver 3.004 (Jan. 1999)

SemAfore Pro ver 3.01 and later (installed from CD-ROM) automatically detects if a Japanese version of Windows is used. If so, it will automatically have installed a Japanese version of the semafore.mdb file which enables both Japanese and English characters to be used in the database fields - assuming that also a Japanese version of MS Access is used.

This feature works only together with Japanese versions of Windows and Access.

Users with SemAfore Pro ver. 3.004 using Japanese versions of MS Windows and MS Access are welcome to free of charge upgrade to this facility by clicking on the correct Access version of your computer and then follow the instructions.
